Object Detection Scanner
This Object Detection Scanner uses an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor along with a simple servo motor to measure the distance between the sensor and every object within a one-hundred-eighty degree sweep of itself. The mobile application that accompanies the scanner allows the user to request specific information as well. The user can request the distance of an object at any given angle, the largest distance with its respective angle, and the shortest distance with its respective angle. All the information received from the sensor is sent to the mobile application through Bluetooth for the user to access.
Notes:
- the HC-SR04 only functions for objects between two centimeters and four-hundred centimeters (objects outside the range will not be considered in the data)
- the HC-SR04 does not work well with uneven surfaces or objects as the contact angle can alter the sound wave's response and the sensor's readings
- the HC-SR04 may have difficulty with softer surfaces or objects due to their ability to absorb sound waves
(Picture above displays the Objection Detection Scanner measuring the distance between itself and a tissue box that is set about 15cm away.)
Wireless Fluid Gauge
This Wireless Fluid Gauge uses an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor to measure the volume of liquid missing and remaining within a cylindrical container. The gauge measures the distance between the sensor and the surface of the liquid while the accompanying mobile application requests the radius and height of the container. After all the calculations are done, information is sent through Bluetooth to be displayed on the mobile application for the user to access. The gauge measures the liquid level every twenty-four hours, thus, sending live status updates to the user.
Notes:
- works only when measuring still liquids: waves within the fluid can cause inaccuracies in the sensor's readings
- the HC-SR04 only functions at distances between two centimeters and four-hundred centimeters (distances outside the range will not be considered in the data)
(Picture above displays a practical use for the Wireless Fluid Gauge - water tanks in most household heating systems need to be maintained at a certain volume to maximize efficiency and to prevent potential issues. The Wireless Fluid Gauge can send live updates to the property owner without him or her needing to check in person.)
